As a result, we have explicit models – expressed as potentially non-linear equations and fitted on available data for the past period - instead of implicitly linear models that could be combined to get polynomial effects but still smooth and continuous, hence difficult to represent any significant rupture.

			The main advantage of this approach is that it's easier to modify to include shocks, tipping points effects as you know where to add it in equations. The drawback is that you need to analyse and express model equations instead of "just" build your models in a generic way from data representing different sectors/regions.
